Affiliate & Advertising Disclosure
How we make money, and the specific things money cannot buy here.
The short version
Some links on this page are affiliate or partner links. If you open an account or buy a product through one, Capital Outpost may be paid a commission at no additional cost to you. Commercial arrangements never determine our ranking, rating or conclusion, and every provider we cover is assessed on the same published criteria whether or not a commercial relationship exists.
How we earn
Capital Outpost has no paywall, so the site is funded commercially. There are exactly three ways money reaches us, and each is disclosed where it applies:
- Affiliate links — if you open an account or buy a product through certain links, the provider pays us a commission. It costs you nothing extra and does not change the terms you get.
- Paid placement — a provider pays to be included in a specific article. Those links carry rel="sponsored" and the article says so at the top.
- Display advertising — standard ad slots sold programmatically. Advertisers have no access to editorial and cannot see articles before publication.
We do not take payment to remove criticism, to suppress an unfavourable finding, or to alter a ranking. If a provider asks for any of those, we decline and the request has no effect on the coverage.
Where the disclosure appears
The FTC requires commercial relationships to be disclosed clearly and conspicuously, and close enough to the link that you see it before you click. A line buried in the footer does not meet that standard, so we do not rely on one.
On any article containing commercial links, the disclosure is rendered automatically above the first such link, not only here. It is generated from the article's own metadata, which means it cannot be forgotten by a writer or lost in an edit.
What a commercial relationship does not change
Every provider we cover is assessed against the same published criteria, set out in our methodology, whether or not we have a commercial relationship with them. Specifically:
- Ranking order is determined by the criteria, not by commission rate.
- Providers who pay us nothing appear alongside, and frequently above, providers who do.
- Limitations sections are written the same way regardless of the relationship. If a paying provider has a weakness, we publish it.
- A provider never sees an article before publication, and never approves copy.
- We do not accept payment in exchange for a specific rating, score or verdict.
Why you should still check
Disclosure is not a substitute for your own judgement. Any publisher earning commission has an incentive worth being sceptical about, including this one. Read the criteria, follow the source links, and confirm terms with the provider before you act.
